Rêve d’amour
1885 (1884)
212 x 127 mm
»Rêve d’amour« or »Love nymph« is an etching after the watercolours of the same name from 1884 and 1885. Inspired by the oil painting »Hunting nymph and faun« by the Swedish painter Julius Kronberg from 1875, which Zorn was allowed to copy during his studies at the Stockholm Art Academy (1879), he initially worked on the first version of the picture in Madrid and later in London (1884-1885).
Zorn created the second version of the "Love Nymph" in London in 1885 on commission from the wholesaler Ernst Morris Bratt.
As the etching takes up the motif of the 2nd »Love Nymph« from 1885, it can be assumed that the work was not created in 1884, as stated in all 5 catalogues, but in 1885.
